About the event

Here's what you need to know, but if you have any questions feel free to contact us on info@scales.org.za

When does it start?

We have divided the day into 2 age groups, with our youngest entries combating our specially designed course first and our old kids and adults taking on the bigger course in the afternoon.

11h00 Start – Under 12’s Challenge includes a 1km Dash and 8 Fun obstacles

14h00 Start – Adults and over 12’s Challenge includes a 3km Ramble and 13 thrilling obstacles

We will have a staggered start, but we ask that all participants arrive for the designated start time, in preparation for their challenge. The staggered start is in order to prevent congestion at the obstacles as much as possible, but don’t worry, you will be kept entertained by our warmup crew, and make sure to keep an eye out, as there’s a chance of a colour shower then too!

Entry Fees

Under 12’s - R60 per person

Adults & Over 12’s – R100 per person

Family Ticket R250 (Includes 2 Adults and 2 Under 12's)

All children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

We recommend booking online in advance to avoid disappointment; however, tickets can be purchased on the day (colour subject to availability) Cash is preferred, however card facilities will be available.

How will it work:

Participants can tackle the course individually or in teams of up to 4 people. We recommend completing the challenge as a team, because let’s face it, these things are more fun when you can laugh at your friends, but if you want to see how fast you can get round the course on your own, we applaud your athleticism.

Participants will depart the starting line and tackle the trail run which then leads to the obstacle course where our team will be waiting to cover you head to toe in colour as you complete each section. The start will be staggard in order to prevent congestion at the obstacles as much as possible, but don’t worry, you will be kept entertained by our warmup crew, and keep an eye out, as there’s a chance of a colour shower then too!

We encourage parents watching their children to assist us in throwing & squirting colour as their little ones complete the morning course, because in the afternoon it will be the kids turn to help us paint you like a rainbow!

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing is a good start, as are comfortable running shoes. (No flip flops) All participants are encouraged to wear light coloured clothing as the colour powder shows best on light colours. Please note the course includes obstacles where you slide and crawl, so wearing long pants is a good idea.

Although all of the ingredients in the coloured powder are non-toxic, they might still cause an allergic reaction to those who have asthma, allergies, or are sensitive to dust. Therefore, appropriate protective gear, such as goggles, sunglasses, bandanas, and face masks should be worn to protect the eyes and face from exposure to the coloured powder during the event. We do not recommend using contact lenses!

If you have blond hair, we highly recommend protecting your hair with a bandana or similar head cover during the event. You can apply conditioner or olive oil to your hair before the event. That will help clean up afterwards!

What if it rains?

Then we’ll be dancing in the rain! We have timed this event to fall out of the rain season, but you never know. As long as there are not strong winds, the event will take place – stay tuned with updates by following the event’s Facebook page. Please note that if the wind is too strong, we might have to take down the inflatable obstacles for safety reasons.

Can I take my action camera?

You can take your action camera (like GoPro) with you, but please note that selfie sticks are not allowed for safety reasons! If you would like to use for example a chest harness for your action camera, please make sure that the harness is safe, and the clips will open if the harness gets caught on an obstacle.

Can I take my phone with me?

You can carry your cell phone during the run in an armband or in an oh-so-fashionable bum bag. However, the race includes some water features (fun, right?!) so we can’t guarantee that the phone will stay dry. You can put your phone in a clear zipped bag, but please note that it would be difficult to perform some of the obstacles with a cell phone in your hand.

I am unable to attend the event, can I get my money back?

The entry fee to the Rainbow Rush Challenge is non-refundable. (After all this is a charitable event) However, you can either transfer your place to another person or you can sell your tickets to someone else!

What is the coloured powder made of?

Ground-up rainbows! Just kidding. The powder paint we will be using is Dala powder Tempera. It is a quality, nontoxic, powder paint. Whilst it can be cleaned with warm, soapy water, we cannot guarantee that it will wash out of clothing, so be sure not to wear your newest, smartest outfit.

How to clean up after?

Unfortunately, we are not able to get cleaning stations at the event venue. Both courses will involve not only colour powder, but also liquid colour and so we recommend you bring a change of clothes and/or towels and/or large plastic bags with you to prevent your car etc from getting coloured.

After your first shower, some of the colour still might show a little but don’t worry: after a couple of washes you should be as clean as brand new!

It’s best to wash all your clothes first separately in cold water.

We love photos! There will be an event photographer running around the course to capture the Rush. The photos will be posted on our Facebook page. We will also use the photos in our advertisements in the future. Unfortunately, they may not be able to capture everyone, and so if you want to take your own photos you can put your mobile phone or camera in a clear zipped bag and take plenty of your own photos along the way. It can be difficult to navigate some of the inflatable obstacles with a cell phone or camera in your hand, so if you are bringing your own device along be sure to have a secure place to store it. Please note that there will be colour powder, and liquid colour during the course.

Can I volunteer?

Yes, it is possible to work as a volunteer. Volunteer assignments can vary, but it’s guaranteed to be a lot of fun! Contact us if you would like to get involved.
